Hi ya ,

Just wanted to share a little bit of info. When i was pregnant i was told i could not claim this as i was not on any benefits. A friend of mine told me that you can claim up to 3 months after having the baby once you recieve your child tax credit award. The form states that you need to be gettin the higher rate tax credits to claim this. I wasnt go to apply as i was told i was on the lowest of £21 a week..well i applied anyway just to see and got a letter of confirmation today to say the full grant was being paid into my account _ £500 WWIIIPPPEEE!!! ..LOL please if you are pegnant make sure you claim this b4 your baby turns 3 months you can get the forms from the jobcentre.

I hope this helps somebody
love
Vicki
xx

i didnt qualify last time...and i did re-apply after jessica was born but as our tax credits wernt officially in place by the 3 month time limit we did miss out.
we are on highest rate tax credits this time but that may change as our entitlement may go down in new tax year as david gets a 'wage' off territorial army well if you can call £25-£35 a month a wage!
there is also the HIP- health in pregnancy grant which is available to ALL pregnant women of 25 weeks or more...although this is less at £190 but it still helps!

Yes midwife will sign it from 28 weeks and you can get it from a jobcenter here is a bit of info

Who is eligible?

You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
  • Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award

and if one of the following applies to you:

  • you or your partner are pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or have given birth within the last three months
  • you or your partner have adopted a child, or in certain circumstances have been granted a residence order for a child, within the last three months and the child is less than one year old
  • you and your husband or wife have been granted a parental order for a surrogate birth within the last three months
  • you or your partner are getting benefit for a dependant under the age of 20 who is pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or has given birth within the last three months
Hope this helps xx

Aw I truly hope that isn't the case with only getting it with your first child. We are depending  on it to get a new cot, as the one we had with the girls is broken Confused

i didnt get it as i didnt apply when i was pregnant and by the time my tax credits came through it was to late. its always worth trying to claim it even if you think you wont get it because you can re apply as long as your first request is within the first 3 months.
